What are the due dates for taxes to be paid?

In a normal year, there are two installment payment due dates prescribed by the statute:

Spring Installment Due Date is May 10th
Fall Installment Due Date is November 10th

1. How can I find out if my property tax has been paid from my escrow account?: You may call your mortgage company or your escrow agent to confirm payment. You may also call the County Treasurer’s Office at 574-235-9531 to obtain confirmation of payment.

2. How do I receive a refund on my property tax appeal?: After the hearing for the property tax appeal the information reducing your tax bill is sent from the Assessor’s Office to the County Auditor's Office. The change may result in a payment surplus or a commissioners’ refund.

3. How many tax bills will I receive each year?

You will receive one mailing each year, which will include both Spring and Fall Installment billings.

5. What is necessary for a mobile home permit to transfer title or for moving the mobile home unit?

The original title must be brought into the Treasurer’s Office. All taxes, current and past due, must be paid prior to obtaining the permit.

Payments need to be made by cash or money order for an immediate Mobile Home Permit. If payment is made by check a two-week wait is required.

6. What property tax deductions are available to me and where do I file for them?: Categories include Homestead Credit and Mortgage, Blind or Disabled, Over 65, Energy System, and Disabled Veteran.

7. Where can I get information on my tax history?: Most taxpayers can view a tax history of their property on our website. Once you locate your property you will see general information, billing information, tax overview and tax history.

8. When and how can I receive my property tax surplus refund?: Once settlement takes place, letters notifying taxpayers of an available surplus refund are sent out, from the County Treasurer’s Office, to all those who have surplus funds greater than $5.00 on an individual property. The letter contains the amount of surplus and information about collection of the surplus from the County Auditor’s Office.
